Guidelines for The Writing Fae Quarterly Literary Magazines

Submissions for magazine articles, short stories, and photography are currently OPEN and will close on August 11th. Submissions for poetry are currently OPEN and will close on July 25th.

Welcome to The Writing Fae, where imagination takes flight and creativity knows no bounds. We are delighted to invite you to contribute to our quarterly literary magazines. Our publications celebrate diverse voices, enchanting narratives, and the magic of words. Please review the following guidelines to ensure your submission aligns with our vision and standards.

General Submission Guidelines

  1. Eligibility:

    • Submissions are open to writers and artists of all backgrounds. We encourage submissions from both emerging and established creators.

  2. Themes:

    • Each issue of The Writing Fae has a unique theme. Please ensure your submission aligns with the specified theme for the quarter. Upcoming themes will be announced on our website and social media channels.

  3. Submission Categories:

    • We accept a variety of literary and artistic works, including:

      • Poetry: not exceeding a total of 40 lines. Learn more here.

      • Short Stories: Maximum 5,000 words.

      • Flash Fiction: Maximum 1,000 words.

      • Articles and Essays: Maximum 2,500 words.

      • Art and Photography: Up to 5 pieces.

  4. Format:

    • All literary submissions should be in a Word document or PDF format, using 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced.

    • Art and photography submissions should be in JPEG or PNG formats.

  5. Originality:

    • Submissions must be original, unpublished work. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.

  6. Rights:

    • By submitting, you grant The Writing Fae first publication rights. All rights revert to the author after publication. We request acknowledgment if the work is republished elsewhere.

  7. Submission Fee:

    • There is no submission fee.

  8. Submission Deadline:

    • Submissions for each issue are due by the last day of the preceding quarter. Specific dates are posted on our submission page.

Editorial Process

  1. Review:

    • Our editorial team will review submissions. We evaluate based on originality, adherence to the theme, and overall quality.

  2. Feedback:

    • While we aim to provide feedback, due to the volume of submissions, individual feedback may not always be possible.

  3. Notification:

    • Contributors will be notified of the editorial decision within six weeks of the submission deadline.

  4. Editing:

    • Accepted works may undergo editing for clarity and consistency. Contributors will have the opportunity to review any substantial changes.

Contributor Benefits

  1. Contributor Copy:

    • All contributors will receive a complimentary digital copy of the issue in which their work appears.

  2. Promotion:

    • Featured contributors will be highlighted in our newsletter and on social media, with opportunities for interviews and spotlight features.

  3. Community Engagement:

    • Contributors are invited to participate in The Writing Fae events, workshops, and networking opportunities.

How to Submit

  1. Online Submission Portal:

    • Please submit your work through our online submission portal here. Ensure all files are properly formatted and labeled with your name and submission category. SUBMISSIONS ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR THE JUNE 2025 ISSUE. WILL REOPEN ON JULY 15TH 2025.

  2. Contact Information:

    • Include an email and any relevant social media handles with your submission.

Poetry Submission Details

  • Open to U.S. poets within the first five years of their publishing journey.

  • Must be 18 or older.

  • Submissions must be original and unpublished.

  • Poems should be typed and submitted as a PDF.

  • Each poem should not exceed 40 lines and must include a title.

  • Up to 3 poems per poet each month.

  • Submissions are due by the 25th of each month.

  • Our panel of judges reviews poems.

  • Selected works will be featured in our monthly newsletter and on our website.

Poem Guidelines

  • All submissions must be the poet's original work. Plagiarism or use of AI tools will result in immediate disqualification and a ban from future competitions.

  • Poems must align with the monthly theme.

  • Each poem should not exceed 40 lines.

  • Poems must be written in English unless specified otherwise.

  • Poets wishing to remain anonymous must state this in their submission notes. Breach of anonymity will lead to disqualification.

  • Poets must ensure their work does not infringe on the copyrights of others. Violations will result in disqualification and potential legal consequences.

  • WBP partners, authors, or freelancers cannot participate in POTM contests.

  • Poems must not promote violence, discrimination, harassment, contain offensive language, hate speech, or inappropriate content. Any work that violates this will be banned.
